PSV 3-1 ADO Den Haag: PSV reached the semi-finals of the TOTO KNVB cup tournament in a very simple way on Thursday evening. ADO Den Haag was led like a sheep to the slaughter in Eindhoven and was happy that it was not completely blown over.
PSV coach Ruud van Nistelrooij already announced that his players had watched SV Spakenburg’s cup stunt and there was therefore no Eindhoven B-lineup. Xavi Simons was kept on the bench. Even without the seasoning, PSV had a very easy evening, ADO contributed very little and gave keeper Joël Drommel a boring evening.
Drommel is PSV’s cup keeper this season, but will soon also make an appearance in the Eredivisie. In the run-up to the cup match, first keeper Walter Benítez injured his knee, he will be out for a few weeks. Drommel couldn’t distinguish himself against ADO. The away club’s first shot on goal was untenable and therefore immediately hit. Then PSV had already taken a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Johan Bakayoko scored with some luck in the eleventh minute and Guus Til doubled the margin not much later by promoting Jarrad Branthwaite’s cross to assist. PSV then failed to really warm up the audience in the Philips Stadium. Ibrahim Sangaré succeeded only in the second half with a great goal. ADO’s aforementioned single achievement followed quickly after the 3-0. But Malik Sellouki’s goal hardly made the remainder of the match any more exciting. PSV seemed to be able to end the evening without any worries. But the blemish on the evening was Til’s failure with an ankle injury.
Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV together in the semifinals for the first time in 18 years
After the victory, PSV is still able to extend its cup title from last season. The club is in the semi-final together with Spakenburg and Feyenoord. Ajax and De Graafschap will divide the last ticket later on Thursday. The draw for the semi-finals will be made on Saturday.
In addition to SV Spakenburg, Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV are in the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup tournament. Not so special at first glance, but looks can be deceiving.
The last time that the traditional top three joined the last four of the cup tournament was in the 2004/05 season. Since then, the traditional top three have been unable to qualify for the semi-finals together for eighteen years. On Saturday, the clubs know the route to the final. Then the draw will take place from 10.30 pm.
