Romelu Lukaku hopes that Serie A will ‘really do something’ about racism in the stands. The Internazionale attacker makes the painful observation that history continues to repeat itself.
Lukaku draws a painful conclusion: “I hope they will really do something now”
On Tuesday evening, Lukaku played with Inter against Juventus in the Italian cup tournament, and racist songs and monkey noises were constantly heard from the stands towards the Belgian striker. Inter, Juventus, Serie A and Lukaku’s management all issued a statement on Wednesday.
Lukaku himself has also made himself heard via Instagram. “History repeats itself,” he said. “I already experienced this in 2019, and now again in 2023. I hope that the competition will really do something now, because everyone should be able to enjoy this wonderful sport. Thank you everyone for the messages of support. F*ck racism.”
Lukaku got his revenge on Tuesday evening by shooting in a late equalizer. He celebrated this goal by putting his finger on his mouth, towards the Juventus crowd. Lukaku received a second yellow card for this. Knowing what Lukaku endured during the match, there has of course been a lot of criticism.
Sturridge proposes solution for historically unproductive Chelsea
Daniel Sturridge thinks Romelu Lukaku could be the solution to Chelsea’s striker problem.
The Belgian is currently on loan to Internazionale, for which he was still important on Tuesday. “Hopefully the new manager, whoever that is, can appreciate him because he hasn’t had a chance to prove himself,” Sturridge said after Chelsea’s goalless draw against Liverpool.
“The new manager should know that this man scores goals. That’s what he’s known for,” said Sturridge. Chelsea have scored just 29 goals in 29 Premier League games this season. “At the moment he might be the right player to finish the chances. I’m not saying he should come back and build the team around him, but he could be the player they need.”
Saltor
For Bruno Saltor it was his first game as interim coach after the dismissal of Graham Potter. “It’s been hard for me. Graham Potter and I are very good friends. It’s hard standing here without him, but I’m doing my best,” said the interim coach.
The 42-year-old Spaniard also saw his team miss a finisher. “We created enough chances to win the game. Two goals were disallowed. The boys gave everything, they played with their hearts and you couldn’t ask for more,” he said.
Saltor saw a bright spot against Liverpool. “N’Golo Kante is incredible. His performance was extraordinary. He’s a leader. It’s a huge boost to have him back,” he mentioned.
