Raúl’s Real Madrid Castilla missed out on promotion to Spain’s second tier. Real Madrid’s promising team, trained by club icon Raúl, held the promotion ticket virtually several times against CD Eldense, but still gave it away in extra time (4-4 over two matches).
Raúl misses out on promotion with Real Madrid Castilla in a spectacle
In the regular season, Real Madrid Castilla finished third and so Raúl’s team had to enter the playoffs. Real had already defeated Barça Atlètic in it and the diptych with Eldense would provide a definitive answer. The first game ended in 1-1 and the return was a true spectacle.
Real Madrid Castilla led 2-0 to Eldense. That was also the first time that Real handed over promotion. Eldense came back into the game to 2-2, leading to extra time. Twelve minutes before the end, Real Madrid received a penalty, which was used by Sergio Arribas, so that Real Madrid could smell promotion again.
Six minutes before the end, Juanto Ortuna brought Eldense back to the same level (3-3). In many competitions, penalties have to be decisive, but in Spain the promotion ticket then goes to the highest ranked team in the regular competition. Eldense had finished second in the other part of the Spanish league on the third level, so that club will play in the Segunda Division next year and not Real Madrid Castilla.
Zidane: “I hope I can call myself a manager again soon”
Meanwhile, Raul’s former teammate, Zinedine Zidane is looking forward to taking a team under his wing again. The French coach said this in an interview on the French television channel TF1.
Zidane was a guest on the Téléfoot program. “I hope to be able to call myself a manager again soon,” said Zidane. Who does not rule out possible jobs in advance. “You have to feel things, I know what I want and what I don’t want. Working in France again is a possibility,” says the legendary former midfielder.
Zidane has been extremely picky in his coaching career so far: so far he has never found an agreement with a club that is not called Real Madrid. The main force of the white shirts was under his leadership between 2016 and 2018, and then again between 2019 and 2021. Since that time, the 51-year-old Zizou has not yet found a project that he wants to put his shoulders to, although he aspired to become national coach from France.
