The English League Two team Salford City no longer has Gary Neville on its board of directors. Nicky Butt has taken over as the analyst for Sky Sports from the former Manchester United right-back. Butt spent several years as a player for The Red Devils.
The club Salford is independent. The club from a Manchester suburb spent the first 74 years of its existence in the lowest echelons of football. In 2014, Gary Neville and Butt took over the club’s management along with three additional football buddies: Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Phil Neville. Since then, the team has experienced rapid growth, and David Beckham eventually joined for a 10% stake.
With major contributions from Peter Lim, who owns 40% of the shares and divides the remaining 60% among the six former footballers, the club ascended fast from the eighth division. In five years, Salford advanced from League 8 to League 2, the fourth division. The club is currently in its third season of competition there.
The absence of young players from the area who had yet to make it big led the ex-footballers to begin working at Salford. A half-basic team made up of Manchester United’s own youth as in their own time is no longer feasible despite the team’s remarkable run of games in which at least one young player was always included in the match selection. The majority of Manchester United’s nearby followers at Salford are those who find the club’s tickets too pricey or too commercial.
Salford City appoints Nicky Butt as chief executive
The Salford guard change was met with reactions from Neville and Butt, with Neville responding first. “Nicky is the perfect candidate. The club is expanding and requires someone to concentrate on it every day. I’m in awe at what we’ve managed to do. We all worked incredibly hard to realise a dream we came up with on a train. And I’m proud of everyone for it. Neville, who will continue to be a shareholder, stated, “I can now attend the game. With peace of mind knowing that the club is in safe hands.
Butt didn’t have much depth. “I am excited about this opportunity and welcome the pressure and responsibility it entails, both now and in the future. To get the club where we believe it can go, we’ll put in a lot of effort,” he said.
