Sandro Tonali completes his very expensive transfer from AC Milan to Newcastle United. On Monday afternoon, the Premier League club made the arrival of the Italian official. The English pay about seventy million euros including bonuses for the midfielder, who signs until mid-2029.
Tonali breaks three records with mega transfer to Newcastle United
With his signature under the new contract, Tonali is the record holder on three different lists in one fell swoop. He replaces Alexander Isak as a record purchase from Newcastle. He is also the new record sale from Milan and can now call himself the most expensive Italian of all time.
Alexander Isak had been the record holder since last year at Newcastle United, who paid around seventy million to separate him from Real Sociedad. Milan’s fallen record had been in the books for some time, in 2009 Kaká was sold to Real Madrid for almost seventy million euros. Jorginho was the most expensive Italian player with a transfer fee of €57 million since 2018, when he moved from Napoli to Chelsea.
Coming up with a nickname for Tonali will not be the most difficult solution for the fans. The supporters group is known as Toon Army and so Tonali will be known as Toonali from now on.
Lonwijk loaned out for the third time by Wolverhampton
In other Premier League transfer news, Nigel Lonwijk will be loaned out to the Swiss Super League this season. Grasshoppers FC rents the Dutchman from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Lonwijk completed the transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Wolverhampton in 2020, where he entered the youth ranks. He was then loaned out to Fortuna Sittard and therefore plays for Grasshoppers this season. It would be a loan deal for the duration of one season.
“With Nigel we have gained a strong defender,” says sporting director Bernt Haas. “He has a lot of potential and brings a strong presence. Together we are preparing for the exciting challenges ahead.”
Twenty-year-old Lonwijk played last season for Plymouth Argyle, a club that plays in the EFL Championship. His contract with Wolverhampton will run for another two years.
