In Tuesday night’s Serie A football news, Cagliari came from behind to beat Bologna 2-1. The hosts have thus secured an important three points in the fight to avoid relegation.
The Rossoblu, indeed, came into this game needing a win, as they currently sit 18th in the Serie A table.
Bologna, on the other hand, are in the top half of the table. And with this game, the guests were looking to close the gap with Lazio, who are on 8th place.
Serie A Football News – Cagliari Came from Behind to Beat Bologna 2-1
The Sardinian side started the game well as Joao Pedro and Raoul Bellanova attempted some early but relatively unthreatening chances. The game swung Bologna’s way after this, but their attempts were also ultimately weak in the finish.
The two teams went into the half time break fairly even, and both had some decent chances. Cagliari had 52% possession to Bologna’s 48%, and they managed to attempt seven shots to the Emilian side’s four shots.
Then, things heated up in the second half and both sides had a few attempts.
Riccardo Orsolini finally enjoyed a breakthrough in the 55th minute, with his goal putting Bologna ahead.
Cagliari responded well, however, and pushed for an equaliser. They received their reward in the 73rd minute, when Leonardo Pavoletti found the back of the net.
Gaston Pereiro secured a late winner in the 93rd minute following a scrappy attacking move, making the home fans wild.
The Sardinian side then held on to this 2-1 to secure all three points in front of their home fans. And the home crowd celebrated their third win of the season.
It was a disappointing result for Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna, though, who need to re-group for their next match against Napoli.
