Internazionale defender Alessandro Bastoni scored one goal and set up another in a 2-1 win over Lazio on Sunday. So, last night at San Siro, in Serie A football news, Inter reclaimed first place on the table. Not only this, the Serie A defending champions also won their eighth consecutive league win by beating Lazio at home.
Besides also being first, Inter are the top scoring team in Serie A and rarely have trouble finding the net.
Inter were out for revenge against the only team to have beaten them in Serie A so far this season.
And indeed, if everything above weren’t enough cause for celebration, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi enjoyed his first victory over Lazio. Lazio is the club he led for five-and-a-half years before joining Inter in the off-season.
So, now, Inter are at the top with 49 points, one ahead of AC Milan with a game in hand. Meanwhile, Lazio are in eighth place in the Italian table with 32 points.
Italy international Alessandro Bastoni fired home a superb long-range opener after half an hour into the match. But Lazio captain Ciro Immobile soon equalised for the guests.
Milan Skriniar headed home the winner in the 67th minute from an inviting Bastoni cross.
Serie A Football News – Inter Reclaimed First Place on the Table
Inter came into the game in formidable form, after winning their last six games without conceding a single goal, even.
A VAR review disallowed Lautaro Martinez’s early strike for being offside. Then, Thomas Strakosha produced an excellent save to deny the Argentina striker.
But Inter took the first lead in style when a corner came, clear, to Bastoni. Bastoni guided a curling low shot around a line of Lazio defenders and into the bottom corner from long range.
Some quick thinking from Danilo Cataldi led to Lazio’s equaliser, though as the midfielder played a ball over the top. This shot caused confusion in the Inter defence, and Immobile profited off of it by scoring a goal for 1-1.
It was the Italy striker’s 15th league goal of the season, and it has now made him the third player in Europe’s top-five leagues to reach that tally in six consecutive seasons after Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
But Inter again had a defender to thank for restoring their lead when Skriniar thumped a header off the bar. He slotted the ball in to seal an important victory.
