After three months, the management had seen enough of Southampton coach Nathan Jones. The club had dropped to last place in the Premier League and gave Jones his congé. Jesse Marsch is said to be his successor.
The English quality medium The Athletic reports that Marsch will be the new Southampton manager. The club sat down with the American’s management on Monday to discuss, among other things, the duration of his contract.
Marsch was sacked as Leeds United head coach at the beginning of this month. In the meantime, Alfred Schreuder and Arne Slot have been in the picture to succeed him. The 49-year-old Marsch previously worked as head coach of CF Montréal, New York Red Bulls, RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
On Sunday, Jones was the next sacked manager in the Premier League. The Welshman was in charge of just eight games at Southampton and lost seven. It became the eighth manager fired this season in the English league. Southampton wants to appoint a new manager for Saturday’s game with Chelsea.
Massimo Oddo replaces Daniele De Rossi as new manager of SPAL
In yet another managerial change, Massimo Oddo is the new manager of SPAL. The former wing defender takes over from Daniele De Rossi with the Serie B participant. The AS Roma club icon was fired from the Northern Italian club on Tuesday after four months.
After his appointment in October 2022, De Rossi started well at the Stadio Paolo Mazza, but the 2006 world champion saw the results plummet quickly and ended up in the relegation zone with SPAL. The board now stepped in, weeks after he tempted his ex-teammate Radja Nainggolan to sign with SPAL. In addition to De Rossi, part of his staff was also thanked for services rendered.
The vacancy of head coach was already filled a few hours later: Oddo is going to do it. The former right back of AC Milan and Lazio, among others, was, just like De Rossi, part of the Italian selection that won the World Cup in Germany almost seventeen years ago. Unlike De Rossi, who took on his first coaching job at SPAL, Oddo has already had several teams under his wing. His last employer was Serie C participant Padova.
