The future seems to smile on teenager Alex Scott. Nineteen years old, but already the world at his feet.
Scott grew up on Guernsey, an island off the coast of Normandy. In 2020 he crossed the English Channel Island for a professional career at Bristol City. In three years, Scott has shown what he can do and the next step seems almost inevitable.
On Tuesday, after the FA Cup match with Manchester City (0-3), Pep Guardiola was also convinced. “Scott is a very good player,” the Man City manager said at the post-match press conference in Bristol. “An incredible player. He’s a young, young talent.”
Guardiola is certainly not the national discoverer of Scott. Previously, for example, Ian Wright and Roy Keane expressed their enthusiasm for the talented midfielder, who has missed just one of 33 Championship games this season. “I saw him play not too long ago and for a game that went nowhere he looked great,” said Wright ahead of Tuesday’s FA Cup clash. “I’m really looking forward to seeing him play against this caliber of players because they have such high expectations for him, not just here at Bristol City but in England as well.”
Keane also made no secret of being impressed by Scott, who has already been compared to David Beckham and Jack Grealish in England. “I’ve seen him a few times and everything about him looks like a top footballer with his movement and his control. It all looks very comfortable,” he said
Roy Keane slams Manchester United’s festivities ahead of the West Ham game
Although he was unable to prevent Bristol City from ultimately falling ingloriously against the reigning champions of England, it seems only a matter of time before a club puts the desired amount of close to €30m on the table for Scott. Wolves would have been close by and West Ham United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur would also be in the race for the talent from Guernsey.
Speaking of Roy Keane, he did not like the display of Manchester United players with trophies. Ahead of the game against West Ham United.
At Old Trafford, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes showed the League Cup to the public. Sir Alex Ferguson also presented a trophy to goalkeeper David De Gea, who kept his goal clean in the final against Newcastle United (2-0), surpassing Peter Schmeichel’s club record with 181 clean sheets.
Finally, Casemiro and player Mary Earps also presented the awards they received at Monday’s FIFA gala. At half-time of the FA Cup game with West Ham, Keane expressed his annoyance to ITV: “No intensity, very sloppy. There were many presentations before the game. Everyone gets prizes for everything these days.”
