Karim Benzema has been found complicit in an attempted blackmail of his former national team mate Mathieu Valbuena, claims L’Equipe. After he stood trial (football news) for his involvement in his France colleague’s sex scandal, with the risk of even facing potential jail time, now, per the court’s verdict, Benzema is guilty for blackmailing Valbuena about his affair.
The Court’s Verdict – Benzema Is Guilty for Blackmailing Valbuena
Real Madrid veteran and French national Karim Benzema is guilty of involvement in former France player Mathieu Valbuena’s sex scandal.
The presiding judge of the Versailles court has sentenced him to a one-year suspended prison sentence.
Plus, this judge deems that a 75-thousand euros fine, on top of the sentence, is sufficient punishment.
Actually, the maximum sentence that the court could’ve wrecked on the France forward was a five-year term in prison. And Benzema stood to pay much more than this final fee – a €90k fine.
The Real Madrid and France international forward, whom Les Blues actually banned before Euro 2020 for this reason, is guilty. He was unable to play for France for nearly six years as a result of the case.
But now, French Football Federation president Noël Le Graët has already commented on the outcome of this trial. He said it would have no bearing on Benzema’s availability for the French national team’s selection for the coming months.
As the striker is able to appeal the decision, he will not be out of the squad, as of yet.
