Tottenham are still uncertain about Gareth Bale, according to his agent Jonathan Barnett. Spurs are yet to discuss the future of the winger, who endured a “tough ride” under the now-sacked Jose Mourinho.
Gareth Bale moved to north London on a loan transfer from Real Madrid in September of last year.
However, this return to Tottenham was no as grand as he’d imagined. Mourinho dismissed the striker as finished and refused to allot him adequate game time.
So, his future at Tottenham seemed to be dangling in the hands of the Portuguese coach. Mourinho however, was fired just two weeks ago, just after the failed Super League saga.
So, under interim manager Ryan Mason, Bale seems to have found a second life with Spurs.
He even scored a hat-trick against Sheffield United recently, his first in the Premier League after 2012.
Still, Spurs remain silent about his future and his agent Barnett hinted that his client was subjected to unfair treatment.
Barnett’s Words
Bale’s main legal representative Jonathan Barnett claims he has yet to speak to Tottenham.
There have apparently been no talks over extending his stay at the club beyond the summer.
“Nothing has been discussed at the moment. He had a tough ride and I don’t think that should have been necessary,” Barnett said to Sky Sports.
Barnett has thus also hinted that the 31-year-old grew frustrated with his situation earlier in the campaign.
“He came as one of the best players in the world,” the agent elaborated.
“Sure, he had a few injuries and a few fitness problems but once they were over, all he needed was to be played in the right position and to be played constantly to get back into the rhythm.
“He has been given that opportunity [under Mason] and you can see how he plays,” he added. “I think with Gareth, like a lot of players, he has to enjoy his life and then you do well.”
Asked if any other clubs could prise Bale away from Madrid on a permanent deal when the transfer window reopens, Barnett responded: “They would have to have a lot of money and they would have to be one that he has an interest in playing for. That rules out a lot of clubs.”
