There is a new emperor when it comes to the list of transfer market kings. With Enzo Fernández, Benfica sold a player for more than seventy million euros for the fourth time in four seasons on Tuesday. This makes the Portuguese club the best-selling club in the world, trumping Ajax and AS Monaco, among others.
In recent years, Benfica sold João Félix to Atlético Madrid for 127 million euros, Darwin Núñez to Liverpool for 80 million euros and Rúben Dias to Manchester City for 71 million euros. There is now another 121 million euros from Enzo Fernández, who makes the switch to Chelsea.
Counting from the summer of 2018, Benfica received no less than 706 million euros in transfers in the last five seasons. AS Monaco follows in second place with 656 million euros in revenue and Ajax completes the top three with 609 million euros. Top clubs such as Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid follow closely.
As a result, Benfica also has the highest transfer profit of all clubs. Minus the transfer fees paid, the club where Roger Schmidt is a trainer has 360 million euros left. LOSC Lille and Ajax follow with a transfer profit of 302 million. We find PSV in seventh place with 188 million and AZ in seventeenth place with 95 million.
