2022 LPGA Rookie: The final two LPGA rookies of the year are now from Thailand.
Atthaya Thitikul, who recently rose to the top of the world rankings, was named the 2022 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year, the LPGA announced on Thursday.
The JTBC Classic and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship are the 19-year-old’s triumphs this season, and he has garnered 14 top-10 finishes in total. Thitikul has an unbeatable 250-point lead over Hye-Jin Choi, who finished second but withdrew from this week’s Pelican Women’s Championship, in the Rookie of the Year standings.
The third Thai to receive the honour is presently Thitikul. Rookie of the Year was earned by Moriya Jutanugarn in 2013 and Patty Tavatanakit in the previous year.
Thitikul remarked, “Winning the Rookie of the Year title is such an honour, especially as the second player from Thailand to receive this accolade in a row. “I’m proud to have brought honour to my country of origin. Although my first year has been incredibly enjoyable and memorable, there is still a long way to go.”
During the week of the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, Thitikul will collect the award at the 2022 Rolex LPGA Awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Florida.
