Andalucia Masters: Adrian Otaegui of Spain scored an incredible 64 on the penultimate day of the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama to take the lead by six shots.
In the third round, Otaegui made eight birdies, including three straight on the last three holes, to shoot a seven-under 64.
The Spaniard will begin the final round of the competition on Sunday at 16 under par, holding a commanding lead over closest competitors Joakim Lagergren of Sweden (67) and fellow Spaniard Angel Hidalgo (70).
One player ahead of Jordan Smith and two ahead of Ross Fisher, Robert MacIntyre of Scotland, who is fifth on seven under after a 69, leads the British charge.
Otaegui began the day tied for first place with Hidalgo and the hot Australian Min Woo Lee, who placed second last year and third on Sunday at the Spanish Open.
Otaegui pulled away, and Lee ended where he had begun—on nine under.
A birdie on the second hole was followed by three more on the fourth, fifth, and sixth holes before the 29-year-old had his lone bogey on the seventh hole.
In contrast, Lagergren acknowledged that his up-and-down 67, which included an eagle at the long 17th, showed that he was “all over the place.”
“Today’s golf was played properly. I mean, I was all over the place, stumbling around like I did the other day. I must improve my game off the tee. I didn’t perform well on 8, 9, or 10. On this course, you put yourself in a good position to hit birdies as soon as you hit the fairway “says he.
“I should start the shot a little straighter. It will be fascinating if I hit more fairways and have more distance off the tee. I also have excellent putting.”
