The reigning champion at the Shriners Children’s Open this week, Sungjae Im, didn’t make a single shot in 2021 that could compare to what the Korean star accomplished on Thursday at TPC Summerlin.
Im found his ball resting alongside a cart trail among the rocks and plants that litter the Nevada desert after pulling his tee shot from the fairway on the 480-yard third hole.
Sungjae Im started the process of getting relief from the cart path with the help of a rules official, but there wasn’t a great area to urinate. Rocks ranging from boulders to skipping stones surrounded a bed of what is best characterised as loose, fine stone.
The world No. 19 released his ball from knee-high, creating a lie away from the larger rocks, but settled down a little bit into the loose bottom layer. Im and the rules officer eventually came to an agreement on the optimum spot to drop.
Im settled in from 167 yards out and hit what was almost an all-time great shot while facing a completely blind shot from below the level of the green.
Iball m’s landed just short of the green, bounced and rolled in the direction of the cup, then broke sharply a foot or so from the hole and narrowly missed the left.
How?! 🤯

It was almost a moment we would remember for years to come, but after a journey through the desert, it’s safe to assume Im wasn’t too disappointed with a tap-in birdie.
