Golf News: Beware the golfer who is hurt.
Mark Hubbard didn’t exactly prepare well at Country Club of Jackson before claiming the Sanderson Farms Championship 54-hole lead on Saturday. He had a foot injury, but it wasn’t any foot injury.
Hubbard explained, “Since I couldn’t practise last week due to a hole in my foot, I came here primarily to prepare for Vegas. To be completely honest. My daughter got me sick, and then she unintentionally knocked a kitchen knife off the counter and stabbed me in the foot. That, in my opinion, is most likely due to low expectations.
Hubbard has undoubtedly surpassed expectations a week early after his 7-under 65 left him one shot ahead of the field going into Sunday’s final round.
But he nonetheless expressed some modesty in his statements.
Hubbard had two top-4 finishes on Tour since July despite his 163 starts without a PGA Tour victory and nearly dropping out of the top 300.
I’ve felt great about my game for the past six to seven months, so I’m just kind of trying to go with it, keep those expectations low, and just try to hit good golf shots, Hubbard continued.
