Golf News: Seven-time major champion Inbee Park has also won an Olympic gold medal and into the LPGA Hall of Fame.
Mom will soon be able to be included in that list.
On Tuesday morning, Park, 34, announced she and her husband, Gi Hyeob Nam, were expecting their first child.
We are delighted to inform you that we will be adding to our family, Park wrote. “I want to thank everyone for their love and support.”
The former world No. 1 Park played a lighter schedule this year as he dropped to No. 32 on the global rankings. After finishing the previous season with a win, two runners-up, and eight top-10 finishes, Park only teed it up 15 times on the LPGA this year, with just three top-10 finishes and five missed cuts.
It was the first major she hadn’t played in since the 2017 Evian when she withdrew from the U.S. Women’s Open in favour of taking a few weeks off to improve her game.
And since the AIG Women’s Open in early August, she hasn’t participated in any competitions. In what was a disastrous majors year, Park’s best finish came at Muirfield, where she tied for 22nd.
Park hadn’t gone an entire year without finishing in the top 10 in a major tournament since 2009.
According to the LPGA’s maternity policy, competitors can return to the sport two years after the baby is born, and after that, they have a full year to compete at the level they were at before their absence.
