Notah Begay III: Is Tiger Woods’ recovery about to move on to the next chapter?
Notah Begay III, a close friend and former college teammate of Woods, predicts that the Big Cat will play competitive golf sooner rather than later.
Begay said on Tuesday’s episode of SiriusXM’s PGA Tour Radio, “I know as soon as he feels like he can be competitive — I believe he got a good grasp of what it’s going to take this past year — we’ll see him. “We might run across him once this fall. He might astound everyone.”
Begay is “pretty certain” that Woods and his son Charlie will compete in the PNC Championship in December for the third consecutive year. Team Woods came in second place behind Team Daly the previous year.
Additionally, on Tuesday, the field for Woods’ Hero World Challenge was revealed. However, there are still three free spots in the 20-player field. If Woods, 46, is physically able to participate, he may eventually claim one of those open spots; Begay feels confident in Woods’ ability to do so.
In advance of his PGA Tour Champions debut at the Constellation Furyk & Friends, Begay remarked on Wednesday, “I think he will. We might see a cart rule introduced at the last minute, which would be fantastic since it would give us another opportunity to gauge his progress.
Begay went on to say that he didn’t believe anyone would “begrudge” Woods for utilising a cart.
The 15-time major champion last competed in the Hero World Challenge in 2019, one week before leading Team USA to a Presidents Cup triumph in Australia. The competition is an unofficial PGA Tour event that supports Woods’ foundation.
Woods was hurt badly in the lower body in an automobile accident in February 2021. Woods made both cuts when he competed earlier this year at the PGA Championship and the Masters. He did, however, withdraw from the PGA after Day 3 because his surgically repaired right leg was hurting.
Later, in July, he participated in the 150th Open at St. Andrews but missed the cut. He continued to feel agony in his legs after the vehicle accident there. However, Woods’ recuperation is advancing with time, so Woods may soon tee it up again. But that is entirely dependent on how he feels.
