DP World Tour: Millions of people have viewed the DP World Tour’s “Chase The Ace” challenge, in which professionals attempt to make a hole-in-one in 500 balls or less, on YouTube over the years. Robert MacIntyre’s turn is now.
After placing T-18 at the Portugal Masters, the two-time DP World Tour winner and current Italian Open champion spent some time at Pinheiros Altos Golf Club earlier this fall in an effort to become just the second player to “win” the challenge. If you don’t want to be spoiled, click the link below to view the results on your own. They were released this week. For the rest of the story, this is a formal spoiler warning.
At the London Club in 2019, Andy Sullivan became the first person to complete the challenge, succeeding on his 230th attempt. Edoardo Molinari, Brandon Stone, and Thomas Pieters all made unsuccessful attempts.
In this test of golf prowess, MacIntyre need not count himself among the losers because it only took him 103 shots to get his TaylorMade TP5x ball into the hole at Pinherios’ 142-yard par 3.
In a pure (but not that pure) reaction to the perfect shot, which required many imperfect shots to achieve, MacIntyre ran around, waved his hands in the air, and yelled a few NSFW curse words as the Scots do. His reaction was one of excitement and relief.
MacIntyre has made other holes-in-one this year. At the Zurich Classic in April, he made an official strike. He didn’t, however, anticipate that response.
The “Chase The Ace” challenge only counts for bragging rights, but Robert “Bob” MacIntyre’s victory is just one more achievement in a fruitful year. In 2023, if his trajectory continues upward, he might even play for Team Europe for the first time at the Ryder Cup.
