Singapore Classic: On Saturday, Jeunghun Wang shot a spectacular birdie blitz on the back nine to equal Alejandro Del Rey for first place going into the Singapore Classic’s final round.
After completing his South Korean necessary military service, Wang returned to the DP World Tour after only six tournaments. The three-time champion did not take long to catch up.
The 27-year-old shot a 34 on Saturday after making one birdie and eight pars on the front nine before launching a run of five straight eagles from the 12th to tie for the lead.
Wang recovered from his bogey on the 17th hole by making a birdie on the last hole to go to 14 under par.
Spanish golfer Del Rey, who was paired with Wang in round three, shot 66 with an eagle, seven birdies, and three bogeys.
After shooting a perfect 65, Englishman Richard Mansell trailed the pair by one shot, while Tom McKibbin, Nathan Kimsey, Sami Valimaki, and Marcel Schneider were two strokes back.
“I think I played extremely well today and the last two days as well,” Wang said after his performance.

“I switched out my putter two weeks ago, and it has been incredibly effective. That, in my opinion, explains why I’ve performed so well.
“I didn’t really give birds much thought. I simply kept playing and shot at the flag, and it was successful.
“I still find it hard to believe I’m here. I can’t wait to participate in every event. I just try to enjoy life, and whenever I’m down or unhappy, I always remember my time in the military.
“Right now, I’m not considering winning. Tomorrow, I’ll just play my own game, and perhaps it will be successful.”
“I feel like I’ve played some nice things this week,” said Mansell, who had the worst round of the day.
“We really tried to unwind. Since the Hero Cup, I’ve played a lot of golf and made all the cuts, but I haven’t played as well as I’d hoped.
“As a result, I have exerted more stress and energy than I would have liked to in recent weeks. With the humidity and the delays, we’ve tried to relax. It’s been fantastic to concentrate on ourselves, put together a strong score, and give ourselves a chance.”
