PNC Championship: Tiger Woods and his son Charlie were gushing about the 2022 PNC Championship, which Vijay Singh and his son Qass won by two strokes thanks to an amazing second-round 59.
The biggest competitors for Team Singh on day two proved to be last year’s champions Team Daly, who also posted a round of 59. Justin and Mike Thomas were two strokes behind Team Singh overnight, and Team Woods was level with them.
The Singhs’ 11 birdies and one eagle, which matched their performance from the first round in Florida, helped them achieve a final total of 26-under and win the tournament.
On Sunday, Woods and his son Charlie had a harder time of it and ended up tied for sixth on 7-under after shooting a round of 65.
After the competition, Woods remarked, “It was a wonderful week just to be able to play with Charlie and to be able to experience it, again, with the Thomases, for basically the third or second straight year.
Charlie and I had a wonderful game yesterday. We both looked like walking penguins outside today. All was well, though.
The ability to go outside with Charlie and for Joey to experience it with his son was by far the most enjoyable part of the bonding.
“I was good once. Again, it was amusing to be able to turn back time so that he could see what I used to be capable of.
How far he has come is “a lot.” I had back surgery the first year, and I played with a broken leg the last. Since nothing was broken this year, it was a good thing that everything was back in its proper place and order.
“Just, again, the plantar fasciitis is no fun, and now I get to truly recover, heal, and progress forward on this because there are so many good things that I’ve been able to do physically, be able to hit the golf ball, practise, and do everything in a standstill, but I haven’t been able to get from point A to point B, and obviously we’re going to work on this,” the patient said.
Added Charlie Woods: “After putting in so much effort to come here, it was wonderful to be with dad. Being out there with a nice atmosphere and everyone being there was awesome for me because I was also attending school and he only had the injury.”
