2026 Commonwealth Games: When Australia’s southern state of Victoria hosts the 2026 edition, golf, BMX, and coastal rowing will make their Commonwealth Games debuts, organisers announced on Wednesday.
Additionally, after being removed from the schedule for the Birmingham 2022 Games, shooting has been added again.
Boats compete in open water in coastal rowing, which is vying to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The 2026 Games will take place in different regional communities around Victoria and will include 26 disciplines and 22 sports, including nine fully integrated parasports, according to organisers.
Victoria 2026 is also proposing to include Para-sport competitions in golf, coastal rowing, and the road race and will work with the Commonwealth Games Federation and pertinent international athletic federations to see whether this is practicable, according to the release.

The men’s and women’s time trials for the road race will be held in Shepparton, a rural area, together with the BMX events.
According to Commonwealth Games Federation President Dame Louise Martin, “We are happy to finalise the Sports Program for the Commonwealth, with the extra sports offered by Victoria 2026 completing an exciting and diverse line-up.”
The Games are anticipated to be competitive and action-packed, featuring a thorough, fully integrated Para Sports Program, the world debuts of BMX, Golf, and Coastal Rowing, the return of Shooting, and the captivating 3×3 Basketball.
The Program is grounded in the CGF’s 2026–30 Strategic Roadmap, which gives hosts more freedom to suggest new sports, particularly those with unique local relevance that will improve cultural showcasing and boost community engagement.
