Saudi Ladies International: KING ABDULLAH ECONOMIC CITY, SAUDI ARABIA — Golf Saudi is increasing the prize money of the Aramco Saudi Ladies International from $1 million to $5 million, making it equivalent to the men’s prize fund and the seventh-highest in all of the women’s golf, two years after it first invested in the sport.
The Saudi Ladies International is a stop on the Ladies European Tour, with the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund serving as the presenting sponsor. The winnings will total $750,000, which is more than or equal to the total prize money from all 27 LET tournaments.
This year, Saudi International, which is now a part of the Asian Tour, increased its prize pool to $5 million for the competition that Harold Varner III won.

According to LET commissioner Alexandra Armas, “For the women to have a prize fund similar to the men is a bold statement and a very important statement that needs to be made.” “But it also has a huge influence from a practical standpoint on really good athletes who have the opportunity to compete for very large money,” the author continued.
Armas talked from the fifth competition in the Aramco Team Series this year, Jeddah. Among this year’s Aramco Team Series champions are Nelly Korda in Spain and Lexi Thompson in New York.
The Public Investment Fund also provides support for LIV Golf, which just finished its first season of eight events with a total prize pool of $25 million, $50 million for the team championship, and 48-man fields.
Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf, stated in an interview with The Sydney Herald and The Age in Australia last month that he would “be at the vanguard of that” if there was a chance to have an honest discussion and discourse with women.
Former AIG Women’s Open champion Georgia Hall won the Saudi Ladies International in March, which was sponsored by Aramco. The competition will take place from February 16 to 19 in 2019.
Hall remarked, “It’s such a tremendous statement. “I hope that it will inspire other businesses to set higher standards for upcoming events.”
The LPGA Tour’s CME Group Tour Championship, which will be held in Florida the following week with a prize of $7 million, and the five major championships have larger purses than the $5 million one. The winning prize is $2 million, which is the largest sum ever awarded in women’s golf.
A collaborative venture between the LPGA Tour and LET has been in operation since the fall of 2019. In 2021, Lydia Ko defeated Atthaya Thitikul, the top female golfer at the time, to win the Saudi Ladies International.
