U.S. Ryder Cup skipper: Tiger Woods wasn’t at Quail Hollow Club last month, but Davis Love III, the U.S. Presidents Cup captain, claimed that he was still very much involved with the squad and strategy. Whether or not he can get to Italy for the Ryder Cup, Woods will probably have a similar impact.
How Woods will fit into his team was a question Zach Johnson was asked during a press conference in Rome on Tuesday.
Considering who he is and what he stands for, Johnson added, “I can’t tell you right now: I don’t know whether he will be here next year, but he will be a part of this team in some manner. Actually, he is already. I won’t sugarcoat it: He adores the Ryder Cup. It is his top priority. As much as he is able, he wants to participate in it. Whether it be travel or something else, he has recently experienced some terrible things.
Woods has only competed in three events this year, the Masters, Open Championship, and the PGA Championship, where he withdrew after the third round, as he continues to heal from a car accident in early 2021 that required many operations.
Love claimed that he chatted with Woods frequently during the Presidents Cup and that they got along well with Steve Stricker, the American team’s captain for the previous Ryder Cup, at Whistling Straits.
Johnson promised that he and he would communicate frequently. “I’ll be happy about that. His ideas are brilliant. has a lot of inspiration. He is usually upbeat, and the beautiful thing about Team USA right now is that we have some really outstanding young athletes competing at a high level.
