CJ Cup: This week at Congaree, the top spot in the world is at stake.
Depending on how Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy perform in the restricted-field competition in Ridgeland, South Carolina, Rory McIlroy, who is rated second in the Official World Golf Ranking going into the CJ Cup, might overtake Scheffler as the top player.
Nosferatu, the resident OWGR expert on Twitter, claims that for the first time since July 2020, McIlroy needs a win or solo second-place finish in addition to some “assistance” from Scheffler, who now sits at 9.39 average points.
Five consecutive top-8 results, including a victory at the Tour Championship where he outshot Scheffler by six strokes before defeating the reigning Masters champion, have been posted by McIlroy. While Scheffler hasn’t participated in an individual competition since East Lake, he did play in the Presidents Cup, where he had an unimpressive record of 0-3-1.
In other OWGR news, Keegan Bradley’s triumph at the Zozo Championship propelled him from position 44 to position 23. For the first time since August 2014, Bradley is included among the top 25.
Although there were no points available for the world ranking, Brooks Koepka dropped two positions to No. 35 after winning the LIV Golf competition in Jeddah.
And now for your weekly Tiger Woods update: Woods is currently ranked 1,218 and is situated between Jack Slater and Vitor Londot Lopes.
