Harris English: This Saturday in Mayakoba, Harris English will be watching both college football and the yardage book.
English shot a 7-under 64 in his opening round to put himself in a strong position to win his sixth PGA Tour competition.
English’s strong play will result in an afternoon tee time in Saturday’s third round, barring a terrible Friday in Mexico. Perfect, I assume?
The only issue is that English will be walking around El Camaleón Mayakoba Golf Course while his favourite Georgia Bulldogs take on Tennessee in what should be one of the best college football games of the year.
After his round, English was questioned about if he’ll be receiving updates on the football game while he plays.
English remarked, “I love to know the result. “I don’t enjoy going out to play when the game is going on like that, so my caddie always has the score ready for me to ask him. We’ve been successful in doing that. We’ll see what happens during the Georgia-Tennessee game, which I will undoubtedly be paying close attention to.
English genuinely believes it’s beneficial for him to rest his head a little throughout the round and think about something other than golf because playing golf is challenging enough without attempting to follow up with a football game.
English stated, “It takes my mind off of golf.” “I like having the slight diversion because we can become almost overly engrossed in what we’re doing on the course. I believe my game has improved a little. This fall, I’ve had some pretty great Saturdays and Sundays, and I believe a portion of that may be attributed to the ongoing football season.
The 2013 World Wide Technology Championship champion might achieve a second title at Mayakoba if the Bulldogs win.
