Glass Slippers, a top-class sprinting mare, is set to make her long-awaited comeback in the King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood.
Kevin Ryan’s five-year-old boasts three Group One victories, including the Prix de l’Abbaye in 2019, as well as the Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint last year.
She hasn’t raced since the latter of those triumphs in November, having missed May’s Temple Stakes at Haydock and planned participation in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot due to a torn muscle.
Glass Slippers finished second to the outstanding Battaash in the King George Stakes at Goodwood last summer, and a rematch is planned.
“She’s fantastic,” Ryan remarked, “and she’s on her way to Goodwood right now.” She’ll begin her season there.
“She merely strained a muscle and needed to rest for a few days.” We weren’t going to risk anything with her.
“She’s well now, and we’re excited about Goodwood.”
