Tokyo Paralympic 2020: On Saturday, the Indian Paralympic team had yet another great day in Tokyo. It all started with a stunning performance by India’s shooters earlier in the day, when Manish Narwal and Adhana Singhraj won gold and silver medals in the Mixed 50m Pistols SH1 event, respectively.
Meanwhile, Pramod Bhagat qualified for the finals in Men’s Badminton Singles SL3 and India has already confirmed one more medal in badminton. With three gold medals already under their belts, Indian supporters’ expectations for Pramod’s gold medal match had risen to a whole new level as they awaited his showdown.
Pramod Bhagat wins in straight games in the finals
In the final, the Indian shuttler faced Daniel Bethell of the United Kingdom. Pramod Bhagat dominated the game from the start, winning the first game 21-14 in under 21 minutes. Despite his opponent’s best efforts in the next game to claw his way back into the match, Pramod showed his class and went on to win the second game by a score of 21-17 in a game that lasted 24 minutes.
Pramod’s gold medal was sealed with a cheeky drop shot, as the Indian shuttler dashed towards his coach, jumped over him, and hugged him in a heartfelt celebration. It just highlighted how important the triumph was to the 33-year-old, and it was definitely memorable for everyone in the stadium, as well as the Indian fans cheering him on from their television sets.

The trip of Pramod Bhagat in Tokyo
The shuttler had a stunning performance in Tokyo, winning India’s first-ever medal in badminton in Paralympic history. A few minutes later, Manoj Sarkar added another bronze medal to the nation’s tally in the same category.
In the group stages, the 33-year-old overcame India’s Manoj Sarkar and Ukraine’s Oleksandr Chyrkov. He then went on to defeat Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara in the semi-finals before defeating Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell in the gold medal match.
Notably, Bhagat will have another chance to win a medal on Sunday when he and Palak Kohli compete in the Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 tournament for the bronze medal.
