Australian Open: Andy Murray beat Zhang Zhizen in a super tiebreaker at the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne to earn his first triumph of the year.
The 35-year-old defeated his Chinese opponent 2-6 6-3 10-2 to win the Adelaide International 1 after losing to Sebastian Korda the previous week.
Murray trailed World No. 97 Zhang in the first set before fighting back to equal the score and winning the match in straight sets.
“I still enjoy hitting tennis balls, he declared. Although my ability to do so isn’t at the same level as it was five or six years ago, I’m still a lucky man to be able to do it at a high level.”
“He [Zhang] served effectively and was taking my time away, but as the match went on, I was able to progressively get better.”
Norrie and Draper advance to the quarterfinals.
Jack Draper, a fellow Briton like Murray, beat eighth seed Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 2.
Draper, 21, won 88% of his first-serve points, had 10 aces, and was only broken once.
The man who eliminated him from the event last week in Adelaide in the second round will now be third seed Karen Khacanov in the round of eight.
With a victory over Jiri Lehecka in a match that lasted over six hours owing to rain, British No. 1 Cameron Norrie advanced to the Auckland Open quarterfinals.
