WTA Tour Season: Emma Raducanu has announced that she is officially ending her first complete season on the WTA Tour in a social media post.
Her chances of making the Great Britain team for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow next week were dashed by a wrist injury.
“22. That’s it! It’s all a part of this particular adventure on my own path! positive for the first year of touring, “stated Raducanu on Twitter.
In order to captain Anne Keothavong’s team in Scotland, the former US Open winner hoped to stay healthy.
She did, however, concede defeat last week, which dealt the British squad a blow in what was already a difficult mission.
Raducanu’s first full pro season has been difficult after winning the US Open as a qualifier last year. He lost in the first round of the US Open and the second round of the other three Grand Slams. Additionally, after breaking into the top 10 in July, she has fallen to position 76 in the WTA rankings.
Injuries have plagued Raducanu, and her coaching staff has undergone a series of changes. Dmitry Tursunov was the most recent coach to break ways with the young athlete.
At the Emirates Arena on Tuesday, Britain will play Kazakhstan, which features Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, and on Thursday, Paula Badosa’s Spain.
Having previously fallen short against the Czech Republic in a qualification, Britain was awarded a wild card as the hosts.
