Jez Green: After parting ways with Russian Dmitry Tursunov, Emma Raducanu went to Andy Murray’s former fitness trainer, Jez Green, for help with her recurring injury issues.
The British No. 1 had a successful run of matches with Tursunov, winning eight of her 15 contests, including a run to the Korea Open semifinals in Seoul last month.
She reportedly wanted to work with Tursunov, but the Russian has chosen to quit to collaborate with a different player.
In her first year on the WTA Tour, Raducanu, whose US Open championship defence was ended by a first-round loss in August, has struggled with a series of injuries.
She now has a wrist issue, and her grass-court season was ruined by a side strain.
Raducanu is optimistic, though, that he will be able to compete for Great Britain at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow next month.
As a result of continuing injury setbacks, Raducanu, who turns 20 next month, plans to prioritise working with Murray’s former fitness coach Green in the upcoming months.
She withdrew out of the Transylvania Open last week due to a wrist issue after retiring from her match with Jelena Ostapenko in the round of 16 at the Korea Open due to a glute injury. It appears that she will slip to around world No. 75 when the rankings are next updated.
In the upcoming weeks, as Raducanu intensifies her preseason preparations, Green will be able to spend some of his time advising Raducanu while still working with Dominic Thiem.
The 50-year-old Green rose to prominence in the tennis world thanks to his partnership with Murray, who went on to win three Grand Slam titles and take the No. 1 spot in the world over rivals Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
Alexander Zverev and Karolina Pliskova, a participant in last year’s Wimbledon final, were among the athletes the physical trainer has worked with.
