ATX Open: For the first time since losing to American youngster Coco Gauff in the second round of the Australian Open, Emma Raducanu will compete at the ATX Open in Texas.
For the first time since losing to American youngster Coco Gauff in the second round of the Australian Open, Emma Raducanu will compete at the ATX Open in Texas.
Along with Sloane Stephens, Danielle Collins, and Peyton Stearns, Emma Raducanu will compete in the first ATX Open in Austin, Texas.
The winner of the 2021 US Open has agreed to compete in the WTA Tour event, which gets underway on February 27 at Westwood Country Club.
DropShot Series Tournament Director Christo Van Rensburg remarked, “We are happy that Emma, the youngest Grand Slam champion in the game today, will be coming to the ATX Open.
“We are thrilled that she will be joining Danielle, Sloane, and Peyton for our first event and look forward to welcoming them to Austin in less than a month.”
Since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon at age 17 in 2004, Raducanu became the youngest woman to win a major tournament in 2021 in New York. The British player also achieved a career-high ranking of No. 10 last year.
However, due to injury issues and poor play, she had a terrible first full season on the tour. She withdrew from the Billie Jean King Cup at the end of the year before competing in the Australian Open earlier this month, where she was defeated by Coco Gauff in the second round.
Along with Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion, Raducanu is the second US Open winner who has been confirmed for the ATX Open competition.
A 16-team doubles field will also be present in the competition, which will be the first one to be staged in the United States during the WTA’s 50th anniversary season.
The first six days of the ATX Open, which takes place from February 27 to March 5, will each feature two sessions, one in the day and one in the evening.
