French Open: After overcoming Casper Ruud to win his unprecedented 23rd Grand Slam championship at the French Open on Sunday, Novak Djokovic now stands alone at the summit of men’s tennis.
Djokovic’s 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 7-5 victory over Ruud ties him with Serena Williams, and he has a chance to tie Margaret Court’s all-time singles record at Wimbledon next month.
Meanwhile, the Serbian becomes the first man in history to win at least three Grand Slam championships in each of the major events, demonstrating his all-around excellence.
Djokovic crawled up to his player box and hugged everyone on his team, including his children, Stefan and Tara, before lying flat on his back on the clay.
Rafael Nadal instantly tweeted his compliments, writing, “Many congrats on this amazing achievement @DjokerNole.” 23 is a number that was unthinkable just a few years ago, and you did it! Have fun with your family and team!”

Before hosting the Coupe des Mousquetaires for the third time, Djokovic, wearing a blazer with the number 23, hugged 1983 champion Noah.
“Casper, thank you for your nice words,” the 36-year-old said to his opponent. You are one of the most talented people on the tour. In today’s environment, I believe it is critical to recognise whether someone has the correct life values. You deserve a lot of respect.
“I apologise for today’s outcome. Sure, it’s not the ideal way to end your time here, but you’ve had an unbelievable two years. I wish you victory over everyone but me.”

“I was a seven-year-old dreaming of winning Wimbledon one day,” Djokovic remarked at the end of his address. “I am really grateful and privileged to be standing here with so many accomplishments.
“I felt I had the ability to shape my own destiny.” I’d like to deliver a message to every young individual out there. If you want a better future, you’ll have to build it.”
Ruud started well, taking advantage of Djokovic’s abnormally leaden movement with high shots to force his opponent back and broke in the second game when the Serbian shanked a smash – his one remaining vulnerability.
