Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic remained on target for a record-equaling eighth Wimbledon victory after defeating Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals to reach his 35th Grand Slam singles final.
Djokovic, who is aiming for his sixth straight All England Club victory, which would tie him with Roger Federer, comfortably defeated Italian poster child Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic, who won 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), was pleased to hold the future generation at away.
“It’s great to be a part of this next generation, I love it,” he remarked. “It was always going to be a very close and tense match in the semi-final.”
“I think the scoreline doesn’t reflect the reality of what was going on on the court; it was extremely close.
“There was a lot of pressure in the third [set], but he has proven why he is one of the next generation’s leaders and one of the best players in the world.”

Sinner, 21, came into the match with terrible memories of losing to Djokovic in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon last year after leading by two sets.
He had reason to be concerned with the seven-time champion in his element on Centre Court, and he set the tone by claiming the opening.
Sinner, who was attempting to become the youngest man to reach the Wimbledon final since 2007, had breakpoint opportunities in two of Djokovic’s serve games but was unable to convert.
The Serb subsequently secured the victory by winning the second set, which was not without drama.
Djokovic lost a point for ‘hindrance’ after yelling loudly following one of his strokes after taking an early break. Soon after, umpire Richard Haigh issued him a code penalty for taking too long to serve.

Despite the distractions, Djokovic remained focused and capitalised on his opportunities to go one set closer to the final.
Djokovic’s most potent weapon is undoubtedly his ability to lock in at crucial moments, and this, along with 15 years of greater experience, was the key difference between the two players.
