Holger Rune, a 19-year-old from Denmark, defeated six-time winner Novak Djokovic on Sunday to win his first Paris Masters championship, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In order to reach the final, Rune had to defeat four other top-10 players, including Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime. When the new rankings are released on Monday, Rune will become the first Danish player to be placed in the top 10 in nearly 50 years.

Congratulations to you and your family as well as your team, Djokovic remarked. “You deserve this triumph wholeheartedly. What a wonderful week you’ve had.
“I am not thrilled that you beat me, but I am glad for you anyway because I appreciate your personality and you are a very committed man who loves tennis and is putting in a lot of long, arduous hours of practice.
You are seeing results, and I have no doubt that both you and your team have a promising future.
The 21-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic seemed to be headed for victory after securing the first set in just 36 minutes.

However, Rune quickly recovered by breaking the Serbian, 35, early in the second to force a decision.
After bouncing back from an early break in the third set, the 19-year-old broke Djokovic’s service in a long 11th game in which he resisted six break points to win his first Masters 1000 title in two hours and 32 minutes.
Since Boris Becker, who won the 1986 Paris Masters at the age of 18, Rune is the youngest winner of the tournament. In his opening encounter, Rune somehow escaped three match points.
“I’ve been following you since you were a young athlete, and you’re one of my favourites. It’s an honour to have you on the court, “Added Rune.
I had a great time at the competition and I can’t wait to return the following year.
