Tennis News: Next year’s huge prize will most likely be shared by Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev, according to Zverev.
With Roger Federer, 40, still recovering from knee surgery and Rafael Nadal on the mend from a foot ailment, Zverev believes a new era of tennis is forming.
Djokovic won three Grand Slam championships this year, but his old rivals Federer and Nadal, who have a combined total of 20 majors, we’re unable to add to their collections.
Medvedev won the US Open final, ending Djokovic’s hopes of completing a calendar Grand Slam, while Zverev reached two major semi-finals this year.
Zverev of Germany also won gold in the Tokyo Olympics and went on to win the ATP Finals for the second year in a row.
“I believe next year will be pretty similar to the last six months of this year,” Zverev said on the Eurosport Deutschland programme Das Gelbe vom Ball.
“Before, everyone was talking about Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic; now, the big titles are the Olympics, US Open, Turin (ATP Finals), and Wimbledon, which Medvedev, Djokovic, and I have all won. I don’t think next year will be any different.”

He went on to say: “I’ve grown a lot more relaxed. I’m getting older as well. I’m no longer 18 or 19. I think I’ve grasped a few more aspects of life and realised that in critical times, all you have to do is remain cool. This year, it has had an impact on me.”
Zverev may theoretically become world No. 1 if he wins the Australian Open and Djokovic is forced to withdraw due to the tournament’s anti-COVID-19 vaccine position.
He stated, “The situation with Novak and Australia is still a major question mark.” “Of course, I sincerely hope that he will be let to play.
“There are many mathematical calculations, such as if he doesn’t play Australia and I win the Australian Open, I’ll be world number one, and so on.
“At the end of the day, now is not the time to think about (being No 1); now is the time to prepare as best you can to be physically capable of playing for it.”
