Tennis News: Sloane Stephens is appreciative of tennis for giving her the chance to play at the highest level and have international experiences despite the challenges of becoming a professional tennis player.
The American wants to give back to the tennis community and assist everyone she can in order to show her gratitude. Stephens claimed in a recent interview with the US publication Vanity Fair that it was only via tennis that she was able to travel the world and interact with presidents from other nations. The 29-year-old continued by saying she wants to support the sport in any way she could.
She stated, “I frequently claim that tennis has given me the chance to do all of these fantastic things. Presidents that I’ve met. I’ve been all over the place. I’ve done that through tennis.” “I’ve always loved working in my community and would love to give back and provide individuals with those same possibilities,” she added.
Even though her tennis career is significant, she started the Sloane Stephens Foundation in 2013 when she was just 20 years old. With approximately 50,000 hours of tennis instruction, the organisation has aided about 10,000 pupils in the Compton Unified School District of Los Angeles.
“Tennis is a very difficult sport to learn. A racquet is required. You require courts. You require mentors. It deters many parents and children. It’s vital to be able to give back to someone else’s child through sport and education since tennis has given me so much,” she continued.
Stephens, who started professionally in 2009 while still a teen, has won seven WTA singles titles so far and peaked at No. 3 in 2018. Her one Grand Slam victory at the 2017 US Open, when she defeated elite competitors including Ash Barty, Venus Williams, and Madison Keys, was the pinnacle of her professional career to date.
Sloane Stephens will debut with the ASB Classic in 2023.
Sloane Stephens and her professional soccer player husband Jozy Altidore took a trip after the 2022 season ended. In order to combat gender-based violence, she was recently slated to take part in the Africa Cares Women’s Tennis Challenge in South Africa. The occasion was, however, abruptly postponed.
The WTA 250 ASB Classic, which will take place from January 2–8, 2023, in Auckland, New Zealand, will serve as the start of the American player’s campaign. Along with other players, the competition will also feature Emma Raducanu, Coco Gauff, and Leylah Fernandez.
