Tennis News: Caroline Wozniacki will return to tennis after announcing on Thursday that she is ready to return to the Tour after retiring from the sport in 2020 to raise a baby.
Wozniacki has been granted a wildcard entrance for this year’s US Open.
The 32-year-old dominated the global rankings for 71 weeks and won 30 singles wins, including a Grand Slam triumph at the Australian Open in 2018.
At the age of 29, she announced her retirement ahead to the 2020 Australian Open, stating that she wanted to raise a family with her husband, retired NBA player David Lee. She has now given birth to two children, Olivia and James.
Over these past three years away from the game I got to make up for lost time with my family, I became a mother and now have two beautiful children I am so grateful for. “Over these past three years away from the game, I got to make up for lost time with my family, I became a mother, and now have two beautiful children I am so grateful for,” she said on Twitter.
“However, I still have goals that I want to achieve. I want to show my children that you can follow your aspirations no matter your age or position.
“As a family, we agreed it was time. I’m returning to play, and I can’t wait!”
Wozniacki said she will return to the Canadian Open in Montreal in early August “to get back into the groove” before aiming for the US Open, with the 2024 Olympics in Paris as her long-term ambition.
“So, I’m going to the US Open. There’s just an electric atmosphere in New York that I can’t get enough of, and I’ve been playing there for years and years,” she remarked in a Vogue magazine piece.
“After that, I’ll have a couple of months to prepare for Australia, and then we’ll see where things go. The Olympics in Paris are also an aim.”

Wozniacki, who turns 33 next month, said she was inspired by Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion who returned to the sport after the birth of her daughter Olympia.
“I think Serena gets far too little credit for reaching so many Grand Slam finals after having Olympia,” she continued.
“Her retirement will always be bittersweet for me and many other players because she has meant so much to women’s tennis. She blazed the path for many of us, demonstrating that everything is possible.”
