NBA News: Draymond Green, a player for the Golden State Warriors, was fined for hitting teammate Jordan Poole last week, but he won’t be punished.
Green will be back at practice on Thursday, according to coach Steve Kerr, and he will play for the reigning NBA champions against Denver on Friday night as well as in the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers the following week.
At a meeting with the Warriors’ coach, general manager Bob Myers, and the players, discussions between Green, 32, and Poole, 23, were held to determine the best course of action.
“We feel like we have a tremendous feel for our squad,” Kerr said during a preseason victory over Portland. Bob and I have had a lot of continuity with this team, so we are quite familiar with our guys.
“We have considered all of our options and feel that this is the best course for us to follow. It’s never straightforward to decide what to do in a situation like this. Imperfections are inevitable. This is the toughest circumstance we’ve faced since I’ve been a coach here. It’s a very serious situation.”
After the altercation, Green and Poole met, and Kerr said that since the incident on Wednesday at training, members of the team have participated in discussions, with Stephen Curry leading some of them.
Since the altercation, Green has not been with the team and has been working out alone.
After the collision, neither player suffered any injuries. In eight seasons, the Warriors have won four championships thanks in large part to the seasoned Green.
The incident happened on October 5, and video showing Green appearing to punch Poole after the two came chest to the chest during a heated argument surfaced on Friday.
The Warriors stopped practising after the pair were soon split apart.
Golden State general manager Bob Myers spoke to the media on Thursday. Green apologised for the incident before leaving the building as the NBA champs practised without him.
