Chelli vs. Richards: The fight between Lerrone Richards and Zak Chelli that was scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon at Alexandra Palace has been cancelled because Richards is too ill to compete.
The British boxers were scheduled to square off on the undercard, but Richards has been advised to withdraw owing to a head injury.
On Sunday morning, SJam Boxing reported: “Lerrone fell in his hotel room last night after becoming ill. At the weigh-in, he felt terrific and had rehydrated well, so the occurrence caught everyone off guard.
“He received a blow to the head and lost consciousness. We have instructed Lerrone not to box, and he is doing so in accordance with the procedures and negotiations with the British Boxing Board of Control, despite the fact that he personally wants to fight Zak Chelli this afternoon.
“BOXXER back the choice. Always put a fighter’s health first. On Monday, Lerrone will be given an MRI, and we hope to reschedule the fight as soon as we can.
Chelli was scheduled to face Richards, who had just beaten Carlos Gongora, to defend his English super-middleweight championship.
The contest was part of a card that also featured Sam Gilley vs. Sean Robinson, Mikael Lawal vs. Deion Jumah, and Adam Azim vs. Rylan Charlton.
