Boxing Fight: Deontay Wilder would be willing to take on Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia this year in a much-anticipated heavyweight match.
Tyson Fury may potentially face Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed world title battle on the same mega-card in December, according to sources. The American star has been connected to a major fight against Anthony Joshua in the Middle East at the end of the year.
In October, Wilder destroyed Robert Helenius in the first round to display more of his destructive power. Wilder would enjoy facing Joshua in what is considered to be the division’s two best punchers.
According to Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel, “Deontay has wanted to fight Joshua for a very long time and is obviously eager to fight him in Saudi Arabia.”
Joshua has generated new rumours about his next professional move by posting on social media that his return to the ring wouldn’t happen until December.
At The O2 earlier this month, the two-time world champion defeated American Jermaine Franklin by unanimous decision.
Can the Usyk-Fury fight be rescheduled?
A fight between WBC champion Fury and Usyk, who holds the unified heavyweight championship, that was scheduled for later this month has fallen through due to communication issues.
George Warren, a key member of Fury’s UK promotional crew, expressed optimism for a future bout with Sky Sports.
“Never rule anything out. We came quite close, but failed to complete the task,” Warren stated.
“That was disappointing for everyone engaged in boxing, including the fighters and organisers of the event, not just the British fight fans.
“That was because you sometimes just can’t agree on conditions. We will go over everything again. In order to find out Tyson’s plans and whether he wants to fight in the summer, we will catch up with him.
“He hasn’t yet responded with that response. Who knows? There were undoubtedly widespread rumours about potential plays for Middle Eastern activities at the end of the year.”
