Boxing Fight: Shakur Stevenson defeated Robson Conceicao on Friday night in his native Newark, New Jersey, despite having his WBC and WBO super-featherweight titles stripped from him beforehand for under-weighing.
Conceicao, a Brazilian challenger, was within the 130-pound limit at 129.6 pounds, while the American star was scheduled to defend his belts against him.
Stevenson appeared unaffected in the ring, as he outclassed Conceicao throughout to win by unanimous decision (118-108, 117-109, 117-109).
Shakur Stevenson, who defeated Conceicao, the 2016 Olympic gold medallist, late in the fourth round, has already declared that he will now switch to the lightweight division at a weight of 135 pounds.
Shakur admitted after the battle, “I had a long week. “To gain weight, I murdered myself. I only want to perform here when I come in. I exerted every effort to do that.
Stevenson is pondering a matchup with Devin Haney or Vasily Lomachenko, saying: “I could lock myself in with Devin. After he defeats [George] Kambosos, let’s get started. I’ll compete against Lomachenko too!”
