Boxing Live: Nicola Adams, Britain’s first Olympic gold medalist in boxing, believes Savannah Marshall can beat Claressa Shields in a rematch.
While her emphasis has switched to a new position as a coach at F1 team Alpine, Adams continues to keep an eye on the boxing landscape and has provided her thoughts on two of the greatest potential rematches in women’s boxing.
Savannah Marshall, a former Great Britain teammate, became the undisputed super-middleweight champion following a hard-fought majority victory over Franchon Crews-Dezurn.
Claressa Shields defeated Marshall by a majority decision in October at the O2 Arena to become the undisputed middleweight title.
Adams believes Marshall can affect the outcome of the rematch.
“Savannah is doing really well,” Adams said to Sky Sports News. “I believe the second time will be different.
“Savannah understands where she went wrong the last time, and I believe she underestimated Claressa a little bit. This time, though, she will not underestimate Claressa and will give it her all.
Adams also praised emerging talent Caroline Dubois, stating, “Caroline’s doing amazing right now. I’ve witnessed her recent matches, and she’s been blowing opponents away!
“I’m looking forward to seeing what she does in the future.”
Frazer Clarke also won an Olympic medal in Tokyo, claiming bronze. Adams believes in his ability to succeed as a professional heavyweight.
“I believe Frazer has the potential to go all the way. Despite the fact that he entered the pros late, he has a wealth of experience,” she remarked.
“He’s sparred with all the best, AJ, Joe Joyce, he’s been in the ring with all of them and he’s held his own. I believe that now is his chance to shine. He won a medal in the Olympics, and now it’s all about Fraze.”
Adams is currently teaching Alpine’s Academy drivers and F1 teams, bringing her high-profile performance knowledge to the world of Formula 1.
