Boxing Match: Ricky Hatton, the former light-welterweight world champion, announced on social media that he will fight Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in an eight-round exhibition bout in July.
Ricky Hatton, a former world champion, announced his return to the ring at the age of 43.
Hatton resigned from boxing in 2012, more than three years after losing to Vyacheslav Senchenko in his previous fight against Manny Pacquiao.
Later this year, the former light-welterweight world champion will face Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in Manchester, where he currently works as a trainer.
Hatton wrote on his own Twitter account, “I can confirm my comeback to the ring.”
“Join me for a huge party night – with top music acts – in Manchester on July 2. It’s not how you fall, it’s how you rise…”
In an eight-round exhibition match, Hatton will meet three-weight world champion Barrera.
The 48-year-old Mexican, who was defeated by Amir Khan in 2009, last fought in 2011, when he won a stoppage victory against Jose Arias to end his 75-fight professional career.
