Boxing News: After being chosen as Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent, former reality TV star Aaron Chalmers confesses that the match is “like a movie.”
On February 25, they will square off in an exhibition match at London’s O2 Arena. This will be Mayweather’s first fight in the United Kingdom.
In 2014, Chalmers became a member of Geordie Shore, three years before beginning an MMA career that would see him compete seven times, the last four of which were in the Bellator tournament. He defeated Alexander Zeledon on points in his boxing debut back in June.
According to Chalmers, “It’s like a movie.” I find it difficult to express these things in words.
“Imagine if I had placed a wager on myself taking on Floyd Mayweather last year; I would have likely received odds of 500,000 to 1. These occurrences are quite rare, so I’m just accepting it.”
The opportunity to spar with Floyd Mayweather, widely considered as one of the greatest boxers of all time, is a scary prospect that the 35-year-old is fully aware of.
“I might worry and have restless nights, but it will still happen in the end. I’m just going with the flow,” Chalmers added.
“I’m more excited than afraid since I know I’m going to be struck numerous times.
“It elevates us to the point where there are then huge fights. I’ve only ever wanted that. The more significant battles I have because of my children, the better.”
Before defeating MMA champion Conor McGregor, Mayweather prevailed against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, and Britain’s Ricky Hatton in his last professional fight.
But the 45-year-old still competes in demonstration matches to display his brilliant abilities.
Chalmers remarked, “I simply have to be in shape. The only thing I can do is attempt to stay in there with him while maintaining my fitness.
“The man defeated 50 opponents who were arguably among the best boxers in the world. So long as I can stay in there during the entire fight, that is all that counts.”
