Boxing News: Ricky Hatton acknowledges that Marco Antonio Barrera may ‘come back to bite me on the backside if they spar in the ring together, but he would be open to an epic exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather.
On Saturday night, the former world champion will compete in an exhibition match versus Barrera at Manchester Arena, which is also the site of a major Boxxer card that includes Natasha Jonas, Dalton Smith, and Frazer Clarke.
This weekend, Mayweather will once again lace up his gloves for an exhibition match against YouTuber Deji, and Hatton may be open to taking on his former foe in a similar contest.
The 44-year-old Hatton, who knocked Mayweather to the ground in their 2007 bout before being stopped by the American superstar in the 10th round, responded, “I’d have to look at it.”
The opportunity to fight beside Floyd Mayweather once more would be unique.
Despite this thrilling admission, the Hitman is still focused on Barrera, a renowned ring veteran who will face him this weekend.
“We all know how terrific a boxer he is as boxing fans because of all the tremendous fights he’s been in, but I’m going to have the opportunity to find out firsthand just how good he really is. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite me in the behind.
“We don’t want somebody to leave that location and turn around and think, “What a waste of time that was.” The crowd has never left a Ricky Hatton fight disappointed, and they won’t on Saturday night either.”
Jonas will meet Marie-Eve Dicaire in a super-welterweight unification match on a momentous night for boxing.
Hatton has explained why he unexpectedly returned to the sport after losing a significant amount of weight.
With everyone under lockdown, “it was put to me that it’s been a rough moment for the nation,” said Hatton.
