Boxing News: Josh Taylor’s undisputed world super-lightweight title defence against WBO mandatory challenger Jack Catterall has been delayed for February 26 due to a knee injury sustained in training.
Josh Taylor’s world title bout against Jack Catterall has been delayed due to a knee injury suffered by Scotland’s undisputed super-lightweight champion.
Taylor was scheduled to defend his WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO titles against Catterall on December 18, however, the fight has been rescheduled for February 26.
“I’m sorry I won’t be able to defend my championship on December 18 as planned, but I wanted to make sure I was 100 per cent healthy to give my great fans the show they deserve,” Taylor explained.
“This homecoming has taken a long time to come, but it will be worth the wait.” I’ll see you all on February 26.”
Catterall stated, ” “There is a cause for everything! I’m devastated, not just for me, but for everyone who had intended to attend.
“I will stay professional and continue to work toward the new deadline. I will be a global champion in 2022.
“This type of challenge is nothing new to me. I’m going to channel my angst into something productive.”
“It’s going to take a couple of months longer than intended, but be assured, Josh Taylor’s homecoming will happen February 26, and it will be one of the largest boxing events ever on Scottish soil,” said Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who promotes Taylor.
