Lopez Interview: Josh Taylor has explained why he left the joint interview he was doing with Teofimo Lopez.
The feisty Lopez has already been trying Taylor’s patience even though they won’t be in the same room together until Thursday’s press appearance.
So much so that Taylor left a joint video connection interview with the American that was being taped.
Taylor said, “He just talks absolute waffle, just waffles on, makes no sense, and I can’t be bothered listening to it,” in an interview with Sky Sports News.
“I got up and said look I’m away, I’m going to get my dinner and go to bed, see you on June 10, because it was dull and you weren’t even making any sense.”
However, Taylor will have to face Lopez in person this week before their WBO super-lightweight title battle, 1 in the morning on Sunday, June 11.
“I think I have to this week, and I imagine I’ll run into him at the weigh-in and press conference. So I’m anticipating that,” said Taylor, the victor. “I believe he is quite nervous and has many uncertainties.
“I believe he is quite nervous. I believe it’s all a facade.”
For the press conference on Thursday, where Taylor and Lopez will square off in person for the first time, promoter Top Rank has implemented additional security measures.
According to Carl Moretti, vice president of boxing operations at Top Rank, “We probably spent another $5,000 on security for this press conference on Thursday because we have to get to Saturday.
“In my opinion, the intriguing aspect of it is that portion. Let’s wait till they are physically close to find out what transpires. They won’t offer hugs, shake hands, or inquire about how your vacation to New York was. I don’t think that will occur.”
“The switch could flip when I meet him,” Taylor said in jest.
“But he argued that he is composed. I feel well and at ease,” Taylor said. “Anyway, we’re going to meet up on Saturday.”
