Boxing News: Keyshawn Davis thinks he can go from being a prospect to a world-class contender with the correct performance in his upcoming fight.
The Teofimo Lopez vs. Sandor Martin undercard at Madison Square Garden will feature Davis, the Olympic silver medalist from Norfolk, Virginia, taking on Juan Carlos Burgos at 2 a.m. on Sunday. The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Arena.
For Davis, this will be just his seventh professional match.
Burgos, in comparison, is a seasoned veteran. The 34-year-old has competed in 44 fights, going 10 rounds with Devin Haney and 12 rounds with Mikey Garcia, and has faced top-tier competition from all around the world.
However, Davis remains unfazed. “I believe I’m moving quite quickly. This is a significant improvement for me,” He spoke to Sky Sports.
“He’s going to put me through challenges I’ve never experienced before. Because he has a lot of experience and has fought against many former world champions, including Mikey Garcia and Devin Haney, this is professionally my toughest opponent. This is undoubtedly a great opportunity for me to push myself and see if I can also stop him.”
Winning within the allotted eight rounds would be a bold move.
“It all comes down to performance. If you watch his prior fights, you could say Keyshawn beat him the best and this fight was action-packed, and that’s the kind of mark I’ll always want to leave. I just go in there and beat on him from round one to round eight and just look amazing with no stoppage,” Davis said.
“My mark will be made if I stop him. This fighter has competed against so many elite opponents of all skill, power, and speed levels, and he has never been stopped. But he’s not just a tough person. And he’s a fighter. He enters the arena not anticipating defeat, but rather with the goal of triumphing and causing surprises.
“I’m going to put on a fantastic performance, stoppage or not. Whether I win by stoppage or not, I think I’m going to surpass every opponent he faced. But if I do manage to stop him, that will speak for itself.”
