Franchon Crews-Dezurn: Fighting Franchon Crews-Dezurn is a chance for Savannah Marshall to redeem herself.
When she faced Claressa Shields last year, she suffered her first professional loss in the biggest bout of her career.
Marshall lost her WBO championship as well as the opportunity to become the world’s undisputed middleweight champion against Shields in London.
Marshall is now coming up to super-middleweight to battle for undisputed once more when she fights Crews-Dezurn on Saturday.
“It’ll mean everything,” Marshall said, according to Sky Sports. “During the build-up with Claressa, I felt really confident.
“I fell short, and all I wanted was to be the undisputed world champion. Look, I’ve got another chance. Sometimes individuals only get one crack, but because this is my second crack, I have to leave it all in.”
She is trying to reclaim what she once had.
“Many people are unaware that boxing is also a business, and it’s a dirty business. It’s rather violent. But look at her now; she’s got all the belts, which saves me from having to send them around and collect them one by one,” Marshall continued, “She’s brought everything for me.”
“If I can’t mix it at this level, what am I good for in boxing?” she wondered. “I have tough camps and tough sparring; how can I go from being a world champion to boxing eight-rounders again, to boxing foreigners brought in for a loss?
“I’m not interested in it. I want to be a champion once more.”
Crews-Dezurn will make it difficult for her. Marshall wants to use her technical talents, but she knows she’ll have to brawl at times.
The champion is a formidable opponent. “She’s very physical, and her style is almost unconventional. She’s a novice, but she’s made it work for her,” said Marshall, who knows Crews-Dezurn from a 2011 amateur competition that the Briton won.
